Five Westchester A&P Stores Get Successful Bids; Fate Of Four Unclear

WESTCHESTER COUNTY, N.Y. -- The Great Atlantic & Pacific Tea Company, Inc., better known as A&P, got successful bidders for five of its Westchester stores through a bankruptcy auction last Thursday, according to a new court filing.

The Mount Kisco location, which A&P disclosed was its highest-earning store last year, is being sold to Stop & Shop; no back-up bidder is listed.

Key Food, meanwhile, is the successful bidder for stores in Port Chester and Bedford. The former location does not have a back-up bidder listed, while Kings Super Markets, Inc. is listed as the back-up bidder for the latter store.

Key Food is also designated as a stalking-horse bidder for a cluster of other stores, including one in Harrison.

A pair of stores in Yonkers have received different outcomes. Pharmacy chain CVS is the successful bidder for a store at 1233 Nepperhan Ave., with Key Food listed as the back-up bidder. The landlord for a store at 1757 Central Park Ave. has successful bid for the store in order to terminate the existing lease; store transfers technically come in the former of lease transfers. Key Food is also listed as a back-up bidder for the latter Yonkers location.

Three of the affected stores operate under A&P's eponymous flagship brand, while the locations in Port Chester and the Yonkers store at 1757 Central Park Ave. operate under the Pathmark brand.

Objections to completing the proposed sales are due by Oct. 13. A court hearing, where A&P will seek a federal bankruptcy judge's approval to sell the stores, is set for Oct. 16.

Four other Westchester stores, which were also included in the auction, did not receive successful bidders, according to the filing. The locations are in Millwood, Hastings, Peekskill and Yonkers (located at 2540 Central Park Ave.). A second auction for the stores has been scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 8.

Three of the stores operate under the flagship brand, while the Yonkers store at 2540 Central Park Ave. operates as a Pathmark.

Last month, a judge approved the sale of A&P's other 12 stores in the county to Acme Markets.
