“We were a very new bank and had just about 10 employees,’’ said Yuhas, Vice President of Loan Operations and Facilities. “But I knew all about the March of Dimes Walk and the great things they do”.
Like many of the Bank employees, Yuhas embraces a culture of volunteerism there and is now preparing to serve on the Vessel Safety Committee for the upcoming Sleepy Hollow Triathlon, which benefits the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Yuhas worked in the same capacity for the Swim Across the Hudson, the forerunner event to the triathlon.
“A friend of mine got me involved with it,’’ Yuhas said. “If I had to swim, I don’t think I could make it. I help with the rescue boats. We have kayakers and swimmers who bring people up on the boat if they run into trouble. I’ve been doing that for six or seven years.”
Yuhas is an avid boater, and belongs to the Washington Irving Boat Club in Tarrytown. He enjoys taking Hudson River cruises with family and friends. ““I enjoy boating, golf, anything that gets me outdoors,’’ Yuhas said. “We have a few people that we enjoy taking different trips with. It’s a fun way to get away for the weekend.”
Yuhas purchased his boat in 2008, about a month before he was laid off from his job at Mahopac National Bank, where he had worked for 14 years. Fortunately, he found new employment quickly with The Westchester Bank.
“It all worked out,’’ Yuhas said. “I was very fortunate; it doesn’t always work that way. I’ve enjoyed my years here and met some great people along the way. I wouldn’t trade it for the world. It’s been great being on the ground floor of a new bank. I had never done that before, and I’m proud of the work we’ve accomplished.”
