In the days leading towards the expected arrival of the superstorm, owners Anthony and Carly D'Arpino placed sandbags in front of the doors and taped the windows. On the day the storm hit, the storm remained open until 5 p.m. as customers streamed inside in search of whiskey and wine.
“At first we couldn't get there because every time we would get near the store we had to make a detour because road after road was closed due to fallen trees,” said Carly about the following day.
The D'Arpinos found that their store had not experienced any damage, and half of it still had electricity. Although they did not plan on staying open, they did so because customers kept arriving.
“Over the next several days, Harrison Wine Vault customers came into to charge their cell phones, computers etc. because we had power when most of our neighbors didn't have any,” said Anthony.
