HAWTHORNE, N.Y. -- OLA Consulting Engineers (OLA) received the American Council of Engineering Companies of New York’s (ACEC-NY) Gold Award for Engineering Excellence, in recognition of its work on the new athletic facility for Convent of the Sacred Heart.
Winners were honored at the ACEC–NY Gala in New York City on March 19.
“When you’re talking about a sustainable, state-of-the-art place that children and the community will enjoy and benefit from, it’s always an exciting thing to be involved in,” said OLA President Patrick F. Lynch. “We’re honored to be recognized for our role in its creation.”
Converted from a parking garage, Convent of the Sacred Heart’s Athletics and Wellness Center at 406 E. 91st St. in Manhattan, is a 50,000 square foot facility serving New York City’s oldest independent school for girls and the surrounding community. It features an indoor competition pool with spacious mezzanine, regulation-sized basketball and volleyball courts, dance studio, multipurpose fitness room, and a state-of-the-art cardio studio.
OLA provided mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection engineering services for the project, which integrated sustainable design strategies to support the complex amenities, including: high-efficiency mechanical equipment, pool dehumidification system with heat recovery, solar hot water heaters, cooling tower with rainwater harvesting for make-up water, low-flow plumbing fixtures, automated lighting controls, insulated building envelope panels, and low-emissivity windows.
