Gendler, owner of License 2 Grill, 802 Commerce St. in Thornwood, took home third-prize for best burger at the competition held June 4 at the Kensico Dam Plaza, 1 Bronx River Parkway, Valhalla, N.Y.
It was Coals Grilled Pizza in Bronxville and Port Chester who fended off 27 other Westchester restaurants and four local food trucks to claim the top burger honor with an all-beef burger topped with tequila-cured bacon, cheddar, and a spicy cilantro sauce. The taste of victory is especially savory for Coals, who finished runner-up in last year’s event.
Close behind Coals and eking passed License 2 Grill for second-place was Piper’s Kilt, 433 White Plains Rd. in Eastchester, with a cheeseburger featuring sautéed onions.
License 2 Grill, appearing in their first Burger and Beer Blast, served an Angus patty topped with caramelized red onions and triple American cheese on Texas toast.
The afternoon featured more than 2,000 spectators who enjoy a day of burgers and live music.
