Mount Pleasant Tuxedo Shop Owner Suits Up The Star Of 'Hamilton'

YONKERS, N.Y. -- If the Miranda family -- as in the hotter-than-hot Hamilton creator Lin-Manuel Miranda -- schleps to Yonkers from Manhattan for a custom-made tux, then you know the place is something special.

The Miranda family, in fact, has been customers of Yonkers-based San Marko Tuxedos for over a decade. "I've known Lin-Manuel since he was very young," said Co-Owner Rob Forchetti, "It's been wonderful to follow his success."

In fact, San Marko Tuxedos, in business for 46 years, prides itself on its personal service, attention to detail and wide variety of tuxedos. "Yonkers is a melting pot," said Forchetti. "We cater to everyone."

Forchetti, a Mount Pleasant resident who runs the family-owned shop with his brothers, John from Yonkers, Gino from White Plains and mom Frances of Bronxville, said clients come from all over including Queens, Manhattan, Rockland, Bergen and Fairfield Counties. And store employees do their best to treat everyone with the same amount of respect and gratitude.

After all, it's happy place where people come for special occasions.

The Forchetti brothers are very rooted to their history and to the hard work their parents did in getting the business to where it is now.

The store started as a tailor shop in 1970 run by Forchetti's dad, the late Nino Forchetti, an immigrant from Central Italy. Frances joined in as the business grew. In 1990, the three brothers, long rooted in the shop, took over, relocating the store to another part of town and adding in a more expansive inventory and diversity of products, from off the rack suits to custom accessories, and a limousine service.

San Marko is known for its extensive specialty accessories division and full custom division, meaning, said Forchetti, "San Marko can produce what our valued clients need, want, or professionally design a look that will identify their persona. We pride ourselves on being a truly unique clothier for the modern man's essentials."

May and June are particularly busy months with proms, weddings and bar/bat mitzvahs. And, oh yeah, the Tony's, which included dressing extended members of the Miranda clan. "It was crazy but we got it done and everyone was happy," said Forchetti.

As for seeing "Hamilton," Forchetti said an unnamed but very valuable customer, got him and his family tickets to the Broadway show prior to Miranda's departure July 9 for which he is eternally grateful. Many clients, he said, have become friends over the years and this person in particular really went all out. "That's what I love about this business," he said. "It's personal."

San Marko is at 718 Central Park Ave, Yonkers, (914) 964-8982, www.tuxedo-rental.net/.
