Thornwood Real Estate Agent Wins Helping Hands Award

THORNWOOD, N.Y. -- Colleen Torpie is a volunteer with Hope's Door, a Westchester County nonprofit that seeks to end domestic violence -- and she owns the Thornwood Allstate agency. And it's the intersection of those roles that has earned her a recent honor, plus additional funding for Hope's Door.

Torpie has received the Agency Helping Hands in the Community Award for her commitment to helping others, and Hope's Door will receive a $1,000 grant from the Allstate Foundation.

The foundation awards more than $1 million every year to nonprofits across the country in honor of Allstate agency owners who give back.

"Hope's Door Inc. truly makes a difference in the Westchester County community," Torpie said.

"These grant funds will help this organization continue to help families affected by domestic violence in the surrounding area. I am inspired by the work that they have accomplished and I am proud to be a part of their efforts."

"Commitment to our communities is a natural extension of what we do every day -- protecting people from life's uncertainties and preparing them for the future," said Don Rubbo, New York regional sales leader.

"With support from the Allstate Foundation, Colleen Torpie and Hope's Door Inc. make Westchester a better, safer place to live."

Torpie's real estate office is located at 59 Kensico Rd., in Thornwood. For more information, visit its website.

Allstate notes that it promotes volunteerism in both its agents and employees, as well as providing financial resources to help local organizations continue in their missions of helping others.

The Agency Helping Hands in the Community Award celebrates that spirit of service. Allstate agency owners are eligible for this honor if they volunteer with, mentor for or lead a nonprofit.

The Allstate Foundation was established in 1952. It's an independent, charitable organization made possible by subsidiaries of the Allstate Corporation.

"The Allstate Foundation brings the relationships, reputation and resources of Allstate to support innovative and lasting solutions that enhance people's well-being and prosperity," the company noted.

"With a focus on building financial independence for domestic violence survivors, empowering youth and celebrating the charitable community involvement of Allstate agency owners and employees, the Allstate Foundation works to bring out the good in people's lives."
