Approximately 2,000 tenth-grade students will arrive from a number of private and public schools throughout the county to attend this career awareness event. Participants will be given the opportunity to hear from professionals who work in nearly 40 different career fields.
The event will include two consecutive informational sessions on careers in business, construction, culinary arts, engineering, graphic arts, medicine and medical technology, languages, law, marketing and sales, multimedia, personal services, radio & television and much more.
The Career Conference is a collaborative effort between approximately 15 schools from lower Westchester County.
Students in each of the informational sessions will have the chance to hear a presentation from multiple speakers in related occupations as they talk about their respective career and life experiences.
This year’s speakers include Judge Anthony A. Scarpino, Jr., of the Westchester County Surrogate’s Court; Dr. Traci Gardner, a pediatrician based in Thornwood; Scott McGee, anchor, News 12 Westchester, Shari Rosen Ascher, corporate underwriting sales director from WHUV Radio and more.
“This is a great opportunity for sophomores to gather information about specific careers they may be interested in,” said Career Services Center Principal James Matera.
“And it’s not too often that you can get a group of speakers from different industries together that gives students the opportunity to inquire about a specific path to employment, the education and training required and what’s involved in a typical work day.”
