Check Weather Before Heading To Mount Pleasant's Memorial Day Celebrations

WESTCHESTER COUNTY, N.Y. -- Due to a rainy forecast many Memorial Day parades have been cancelled, though ceremonies will still occur.

Almost every town and village across Westchester honors the men and women who have died serving our country. The following is a sampling of what had been scheduled, though, with heavy rain in the forecast, you'll want to check your town's website for an update. 

  • Ardsley: The parade is cancelled. Instead, there will be a ceremony at 10 a.m. at the Firehouse. 
  • Bronxville: The 96th annual Memorial Day parade and ceremony has been cancelled.

  • Bedford: In Bedford Village the parade Starts 11:15 a.m. at Seminary Rd. and Pound Ridge Rd with ceremonies at the Village Green WW I, WW II, Korean, Vietnam & Gulf War memorials with light refreshments at the fire house after the ceremony. In Bedford Hills, the parade starts at 9 a.m. at the Bedford Hills Elementary School ending at the Bedford Hills Fire Department. 

  • Eastchester: The Eastchester/Tuckahoe Memorial Day Ceremonial Parade assembles at 9:15 a.m. at the Eastchester Monument Park, California and White Plains Roads and includes a Memorial Tribute Ceremony at the Eastchester Monument Park at 9:30 a.m. Following the ceremony, the parade kicks off at 10 a.m. and proceeds south on White Plains Road to Main Street through Tuckahoe, ending at the WWII monument at Generoso Pope Plaza.
  • Elmsford: Parade starts at 10:30 a.m. at Legion Park on Main Street and continues West on Main Street to South Stone Avenue, ending at Village Hall where a service will be held. In case of inclement weather, the service will be held at 11 a.m. under a tent at Village Hall. 
  • Harrison: Parade begins at 10 a.m. at Halstead Avenue and and corner of Thatcher Avenue. 
  • Hartsdale: Because of inclement weather, the Fairview Fire department will hold its annual parade and ceremony inside --at 19 Rosemont Blvd, White Plains at 11 a.m.. After the ceremony the department will sponsor a barbecue for attendees.
  • Katonah: Parade starts at 10 a.m. at the Katonah Fire Department with ceremonies at Lawrence Circle. There's also a picnic hosted by the American Legion Post 1575 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 136 Jay Street.
  • Mamaroneck: Parade at 3 p.m. at 189 Prospect Ave.
  • Mount Kisco:  The American Legion Post 136 of Mount Kisco will hold its annual Memorial Day parade starting at Oakwood Cemetery, traveling down Smith Street to Route 117, ending at the War Memorial, adjacent to the Village Hall and Library. A service will be held at the memorial. Refreshments will be served upon the conclusion of the service.
  • New Castle: Memorial services at Memorial Circle.at 10:30am, with ceremonies at the Victory Corner Monument (corner of King and Bedford road by Talbots/across from Walgreens). The parade assembles at 10:40 a.m. at Ridgewood Terrace and steps off at 11 a.m. 
  • New Rochelle: All are invited to a service and wreath laying at 10 a.m. at Memorial Monument, Plaza, Memorial at Highway and Main Street. From noon to 6 p.m. the celebration begins at Glen Island Park with an all day concert and barbecue.
  • North Salem: The North Salem Memorial Day parade begins at 10 a.m starting at Oak Ridge Road and Route 116. It ends with a reading of the roster of North Salemites who died in military service. The ceremony is followed by free hot dogs and soda at the ball field opposite The Fish and The Farmer. 
  • Ossining: The high likelihood of heavy rain and the chance of thunderstorms Monday has resulted in the cancellation of the Ossining Memorial Day Parade by the Central Committee for Organized War Veterans. A small ceremony will be held at Parker Bale Post 1597 to remember veterans. "This was a difficult decision but it was made with the safety of our residents as the top priority," the committee said in a statement.
  • Pelham: The annual Memorial Day parade starts at 11:30 a.m. in Pelham Manor.
  • Rye: Parade starts 9:30 a.m. along Purchase Street with Memorial Day services at 10:30 a.m. on the Village Green American Legion Post 128.
  • Scarsdale: Scarsdale Village Parade begins at 9:45 am with a march followed by speeches.
  • Shrub Oak: Mohegan Fire Department Memorial Day service starts at 10 a.m. at Shrub Oak Memorial.
  • Somers: Parade participants should be at the Somers Middle School by 9:30 a.m. Parade will continue to Ivendell Cemetery where the ceremony will be held at the Veteran's Memorial. Refreshments will be served immediately following at the Town House.
  • South Salem: The 40th Annual South Salem Memorial Day Fair will proceed as planned despite the forecast for heavy rain in the morning. The event will once again feature road races, children’s games, silent auction, bake sale, as well as live music performed by local musicians. The fair runs from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m..

    Preparations to keep residents dry include moving the pews in the South Salem Presbyterian Church’s large sanctuary to accommodate vendors. Food will be cooked in a tent outside, but can be eaten in a large tent outside, or in the Narthex, or entrance hall of the church. Children’s games have been moved to the nursery school facilities on the second floor.

  • Tarrytown: Parade kicks off at 9 a.m. on Main Street, continues on to Broadway into Sleepy Hollow and returns to Patriots Park for a ceremony.

  • Thornwood: The American Legion Gilbert Rauh Post No. 1574 hosts a parade and ceremony at 11 a.m. at the monument located at the Old Thornwood Railroad Station. For those who have their flags at the ready, the parade will begin at Berlin Imports, ending at the Gilbert Rauh post for refreshments. The post is where the ceremony will take place in case of bad weather.

  • Valhalla: Parade starts on Westlake Drive at 9:30 a.m., continues south on Columbus Avenue to the Village Green, where a ceremony will be held. Hot dogs, ice cream and beverages are available afterward at the American Legion Post 1038 on Legion Drive.
  • Yonkers: The Yonkers Memorial Day parade is canceled due to the forecasted rain. The Memorial Day ceremony at 9 a.m. will instead be at the Ceremonial Courtroom on the fourth floor of City Hall.
  • Yorktown Heights: Because of the rainy weather, the Memorial Day Parade has been canceled. It had been planned for 11 a.m. at Memorials at Town Hall with parade, speeches and ceremony following.
  • White Plains: The parade has been cancelled; instead, a Memorial Day ceremony will be held in the Common Council Chamber in City Hall at 10 a.m.
