MOUNT PLEASANT, N.Y. – It’ll be fun for the kids, a great way for dad to spend his Father’s Day and will raise money for a good cause, according to event organizers.
The inaugural Have Fun Fitness Kids Fun Race is a non-competitive day to encourage a healthy lifestyle in children, said Matt Fisher, owner of Have Fun Fitness.
Fisher’s business, which is co-sponsoring the event along with the town of Mount Pleasant, runs through the CrossFit Immortal gym in Pleasantville and works specifically with children ages 5-14.
His event, which is scheduled for June 19, is to feature more than 15 obstacles, including three large inflatables, a water slide, tire flips, a rope swing and a sand pit crawl.
“The goals are to promote health and wellness, keep children active and have them find enjoyment through exercise,” Fisher said.
In addition to the fitness opportunities, the Fun Race is to have a DJ and a concession stand. A portion of the proceeds will benefit Blythedale Children’s Hospital, a specialty hospital in Valhalla.
“We are hoping this race allows for kids to have fun with fitness while raising money for a great cause,” Fisher said, adding that his intent is for the Fun Race to become an annual event.
The Have Fun Fitness Kids Fun Race is scheduled for 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. on June 19 (Father's Day) at Broadway Field in Hawthorne. The race costs $35 per child and includes a race day t-shirt and finisher’s medal.
