The camp is a 30-hour program over one week, from August 15-19, at Lincoln Middle School. Police officers experienced in youth programs staff the program, with assistance from the New Jersey Army National Guard, middle school personnel and student mentors.
Students will work together as a team, develop leadership skills and become familiar with the middle school environment. The program will also focus on respect for authority, respect for the armed forces and patriotism. Each year over 140 students attend.
Campers will receive two t-shirts, a visor, and breakfast and lunch each day. The fee is $75 -- but no child will be turned away due to a family's inability to pay. If you have a financial hardship, contact Lt. James Knepper at jknepper@hawthornepdnj.org or 973-427-1800. This information will be kept confidential.
"Each year teachers at Lincoln Middle School report a marked improvement in the attitude of incoming students," organizers note. "Hope to see you there."
