MOUNT PLEASANT, N.Y. - Volunteers will help clean more than 18,000 acres of Westchester County parks, trails and nature centers this weekend and residents can do their part locally by helping to spruce up Graham Hills Park.
The county is asking people to choose their favorite park and help by clearing trails, pruning, preparing flower beds, removing debris, staining, painting and cleaning.
The event takes place Sunday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. around the county. Volunteers are welcome to pitch in for an hour or two, or the whole day and should dress appropriately for work, county officials said. Work gloves, cleaning tools and supplies will be provided for volunteers who sign up in advance.
Graham Hills Park, on Route 117 in Mount Pleasant, features about five miles of biking trails geared toward experienced riders.
Pitch In for Parks, the largest single-day volunteer activity of the year in the county, is co-sponsored by the Friends of Westchester County Parks, Inc., and 107.1 The Peak radio.
