Representatives from the Pleasantville Volunteer Ambulance Corps, the Pleasantville Volunteer Fire Department and Pleasantville High School have teamed up to replenish the region’s blood supply, Angela Usobiaga, a spokeswoman for the Fire Department, said in a press release.

“As we head into summer, it is important to keep blood donations as high as possible as they will rapidly fall off in July and August, when schools are closed and vacations take us away from home,” Usobiaga said.

The Pleasantville and New York City region needs at least 2,000 units of blood each day to meet typical needs; this figure doesn’t include possible emergency situations such as a widespread catastrophic event.

The blood drive will be from 9 a.m.-9 p.m. at Pleasantville High School, 60 Romer Ave.

Blood donors from all towns, not just Pleasantville, are invited to donate whole blood and/or red cells, Usobiaga said.

Advance registration is encouraged but not required.
