Twyla Tharp, Danny Meyer Join Conversations At Manhattanville

PURCHASE, N.Y. -- Dancer, choreographer and author Twyla Tharp restaurateur Danny Meyer will be featured in upcoming Castle Conversations at Manhattanville College.

Twyla Tharp graduated from Barnard College in 1963. Since then, she's choreographed 129 dances, 12 TV specials, six movies, four ballets, four Broadway shows and two figure skating routines.

Tharp received a Tony Award, two Emmy Awards, 19 honorary doctorates, the Vietnam Veterans of America President’s Award, the 2004 National Medal of the Arts, the 2008 Jerome Robbins Prize, and a 2008 Kennedy Center Honor. 

In 1965, she founded Twyla Tharp Dance. Her dances combine jazz, ballet, boxing and her own inventions, said a release.

In 1992, Tharp published her autobiography, "Push Comes To Shove." She is author of "The Creative Habit: Learn it and use it for Life and "The Collaborative Habit: Life Lessons for Working Together" and working on a fourth books.

Danny Meyer is the CEO of Union Square Hospitality Group, which includes Union Square Cafe, Gramercy Tavern, Blue Smoke, Jazz Standard, Shake Shack, The Modern, Maialino, Untitled, North End Grill, Marta, Union Square Events, and Hospitality Quotient, a learning and consulting business. 

Meyer, his restaurants and chefs have earned 25 James Beard Awards. His first business book, "Setting the Table" (HarperCollins, 2006) was a New York Times bestseller. It examines the power of hospitality in restaurants, business and life. 

The conversation with Twyla Tharp will be Tuesday, Sept. 20 at 8 p.m. The conversation with Danny Myer is set for Tuesday, Nov. 29 at 8 p.m. Both events are at O'Byrne Chapel, Manhattanville College, 2900 Purchase St., Purchase, N.Y.
