Will Shortz Hosts Annual Crossword Contest In Pleasantville

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. -- Will Shortz, the New York Times crossword editor, will oversee the 19th annual Westchester Crossword Puzzle Tournament scheduled for Friday, Sept. 16 at St. John's Episcopal Church in Pleasantville.

The tournament will feature Monday -Thursday puzzles from the next two weeks of the New York Times, selected and edited by Shortz, who lives in Pleasantville.

Each puzzle will have a time limit of 15 to 20 minutes.

Prizes (puzzle books and trophies) will be awarded to the top solvers overall, as well as the best junior (25 years or under), senior (60-plus), rookie and resident of Pleasantville.

Prizes will also be awarded to one randomly selected, correct solver of each puzzle.

The entry fee is $30 per solo solver or $45 per doubles pair, which includes coffee and dessert.

All the money raised from the tournament will go to the Pleasantville Fund for Learning.

The tournament will be from 7:30 - 9:45 p.m.
