Next time you're looking to add a splash of color to your home decor, try a peppy orange. Color number 17-1463, also known as Tangerine Tango, is the 2012 Pantone color of the year. And that means splashes of this deep orange-red will be popping up in your favorite home stores.

Attention-getting orange has been brightening up monochromatic beige and white interiors for years. But tangerine tango cranks orange up a couple of notches to a full-scale wow.

Since it's so saturated, use this energizing color for dramatic accessories in your home. Look for patterned table linens, a bright flower vase or a couple of pillows to add spicy heat. If you're not afraid of color, try painting the back wall of built-in bookcases in an eggshell finish for a little extra glossy glamor.

Pantone is an international company whose business is color. Pantone colors are used by all industries where color matters - digital technology, fashion, home decor and, obviously, paint.

Tangerine tango is Pantone's name for this red-orange. Benjamin Moore's tangerine dream (2012-30) or flame (2012-20) are a close match.
