To the editor:

Let's not mince words. the writer of this article is using the code words, "effective management" to to call for the brutal killing of swans.

He also attempts to demonize these magnificent birds, calling them a "nuisance" and "aggressive", plus further justifies his position by claiming the "elimination" of swans will prevent the "disruption of our coastal ecosystem."

The root problem of any culling is a lack of compassion.

Swans are among the most beautiful birds on earth.

Their presence in any park enhance the experience.

For consideration, how many people who favor "the effective management" of swans would be willing to view such a spectacle up close? If no, then, why not?

Is the infliction of a painful death acceptable only with the provision that you don't have to watch it? This is privilege. It doesn't effect me. I don't see it. Therefore, so what?

It's unreal. Compassion matters.
