Generally, dark purples such as a grape or a berry hue work better in formal living and dining areas. Conversely, bright purples can bring energy to a child's room while softer purples such as lilac can work great as alternatives to an off white wall.

Deep purple and grape have a certain majestic feel to them and evoke luxury. Benjamin Moore's Darkest Grape (2069-30) adds a strong accent when combined with warmer, softer colors. An off white color such as Benjamin Moore's Paper Mache (AF-25) can be used as a trim to prevent the purple from overpowering the room. In addition, a ceiling color such as Benjamin Moore's Proposal (AF-260) can add to this feeling.

Soft hues such as lilac can be alternatives to off-white walls; creating a peaceful backdrop while adding color. The palest of blue-tone purples, Benjamin Moore's Wisteria promotes peaceful and easy feelings. To keep the color from becoming lost in a space, adding a dark color for a trim such as Benjamin Moore's Carbon Copy.
