Scouting and s'mores are practically synonymous and most people have a past relationship with the sweet treats, even if they don't know a Daisy from an Eagle scout.

National S'mores Day is Aug. 10 and you don't need a Girl Scout or even a campfire to celebrate.

S'mores is a marriage of marshmallows, chocolate and graham crackers. The ingredients are so complementary, chefs have created s'mores in many fancy varieties.

The first official recipe for the treat was published in Alec Barnum's "Trampling and Trailing with the Girl Scouts," published in 1927, according to National Day Calendar and other websites.

Some "experts," however, believe the s'mores tradition began much earlier.

Either way, celebrate the glory of s'mores and feel free to add peanut butter cups or nutella, artisanal marshmallows or Maui graham crackers.

Even if you hate the new twist, you can always make s'more and get inspiration from Bob McAllister's "Marshmallows are Funny."
