Bedford's Ryan Reynolds Discusses Overcoming Anxiety In 'Variety'

BEDFORD, N.Y. – Bedford resident Ryan Reynolds may have all his stuff together as the sexy, snarky, cancer-thrashing superhero Deadpool, but in reality the actor has been shaking in his red spandex suit, according to a report in Variety.

"Deadpool" actor Ryan Reynolds, who lives in Bedford with his actress wife, Blake Lively, and two children, talked of his bouts with anxiety in an interview with Variety. The movie, and Reynolds, are both up for a Golden Globe award.

Reynolds and the movie itself are both up for a Golden Globe award -- the film in the Best Motion Picture, Musical or Comedy category, and Reynolds for his turn as the wisecracking Wade Wilson.

He told Variety that he has suffered from anxiety since he was a child.

The lanky 40-ish native of British Columbia and his actress wife, Blake Lively, have a $2 million estate in Bedford where they live with their two, photogenic children.

People magazine’s “Sexiest Man Alive” for 2010 told Variety that he grew up with three older brothers and a domineering dad.

Calling himself a “twitchy kid,” he told the entertainment trade magazine that the anxiety may have started because of a need to control others -- by controlling himself.

His nerves really got bad during the production of “Deadpool,” its star, producer, editor and marketing director told Variety.

Maybe because of the many hats he was wearing, expectations began to pile up. He worked constantly on the comic-book flick, barely sleeping, and would have lost it completely if it wasn't for Lively, who helped keep him "sane," he told buzzfeed.com.

Reynolds landed his first acting gig in 1990, when he was 14. It was on the Nickelodeon-distributed Canadian teen soap “Hillside.”

He went on to star in dozens of movies, the most notable being “National Lampoon’s Van Wilder,” “Definitely, Maybe,” and “The Green Lantern,” a 2011 superhero movie that flopped.

The Golden Globes Awards, to be hosted by Tonight Show star Jimmy Fallon, honors the best in both film and television.

The show airs at 8 p.m. (EST) on NBC Sunday, Jan. 8.
