Missing Dog Who Was Spotted In Thornwood Returns Home

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. -- Dante, the 10-year-old Cane Corso/Italian Mastiff lost since Dec. 28, returned to his home in the Bear Ridge section of Pleasantville on Wednesday, but sadly died there, according to his owners.

Dante Marino, a 10-year-old Cane Corso/Italian Mastiff, returned to his home in the Bear Ridge Road area of Pleasantville on Wednesday where he died. The 120-pound family dog had been missing since Dec. 28.

Natalie Marino told Daily Voice, "We will miss him and our heart aches."

Arthur Marino, in Facebook posts, wrote, "Apparently he made his way back to his property to expire. He was lying peacefully in a cubby hole and looked as if he was sleeping on our couch."

Dante was sighted near Pleasantville's border with Thornwood on North Broadway on New Year's Eve.

A second sighting of the 120-pound dog came about 5 p.m. on Jan. 1 on Nannahagen Road near Ashland Avenue in Pleasantville.

Marino went on to thank the many friends, neighbors and even strangers who helped search for Dante or offer words of encouragement. "In the middle of this surreal tragedy, I have witnessed the most compassionate and caring individuals that humanity has to offer," Marino wrote.

Arthur Marino previously told Daily Voice that the family got Dante when his wife, Natalie, was pregnant with their now 9-year-old daughter, Valentina.
