Thornwood Resident Participates In Disability Advocacy Program

THORNWOOD, N.Y. -- Thornwood native Anthony Monaco was part of the staff facilitating the Junior Partners in Policymaking program at the University of Delaware last month.

The program is aimed at helping young adults ages 15-22 -- both with and without disabilities -- get involved in disability advocacy at the local, state and national levels.

Monaco and several other current University of Delaware students, recent university graduates and personnel from the university's Center for Disabilities Studies helped facilitate the weeklong program on the university's campus. Participants in the Junior Partners in Policymaking program learned skills such as creating Individualized Education Programs and developing public policy.

Junior Partners in Policymaking is paid for by the Delaware Developmental Disabilities Council, the Administration on Intellectual and Development Disabilities, the Delaware Department of Education and the Delaware General Assembly.
