Thornwood Theater Group Takes Home National Awards

THORNWOOD, N.Y. – Lighthouse Youth Theatre, a Thornwood based theater company, was nationally recognized for its productions recently in The National Youth Arts Awards, taking home 10 trophies at the annual ceremony on Sunday in the Bronx.

Seven individuals from the Thornwood company were recognized for their individual achievement. Michael Shofi won Outstanding Lead Actor for his performance as Jean Valjean in "Les Miserables." Lauren Moore won Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Musical for her performance of Mayzie LaBird in "Seussical." Ryan Fanelli and Scott Fritsch each won Outstanding Supporting Actor in the Junior Division for their performances in "Les Miserables" and Emily Apadula and Kayla Moore won Outstanding Supporting Actress in "Les Miserables." Outstanding Featured Actress in a musical went to Rebecca Simpson Wallack for her performance in "Big River."

The theater company also won ensemble awards for Outstanding Production ("Les Miserables"), Outstanding Ensemble in the Junior Division ("Les Miserables"), and Outstanding Ensemble ("Seussical"). The company also received 16 other nominations.

Lighthouse Youth Theatre was formed in 1996 and is currently performing "The Music Man."

The National Youth Arts Awards are given out by a panel of 20 judges and are selected from 100 different theater companies in 11 different states.

Range:

The rest of the music is simply predestined to fill out the account, and this is done well. The Producers may be one of the little musicals in history that was in truth greater than the sum of its parts.
