VALHALLA, N.Y. - Marie G. Petrullo, a resident of Valhalla since 2002, died Nov. 29 at the age of 96. A funeral service will be held on Friday.
Born Dec. 11, 1914 in Brooklyn N.Y., Petrullo graduated from the Julliard School of Music in 1936. Her music achievements include playing viola with the Scranton Philharmonic Orchestra during World War II and being chair of the music department at Bay Ridge High School in Brooklyn.
She taught music at several schools, including Manumit School in Pawling, N.Y. and College Misericordia in Dallas, Penn. Petrullo spent 30 years teaching at Bay Ridge High School, from 1945 to 1975. She served as a section leader and helped prepare the All City High School Orchestra for concerts at Carnegie Hall in New York.
Petrullo enjoyed traveling through Europe and the United States. She was an active member of the Green Mountain Club.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. on Friday at Beecher Funeral Home in Pleasantville. A funeral mass will follow at 11 a.m. at Holy Name of Jesus Church in Valhalla. The burial service will take place at 1:30 p.m. at St. Charles Cemetery in Farmingdale, N.Y.
