ARDSLEY, N.Y. -- The Ashford Avenue Bridge will experience lane closures Friday, Aug. 1 between noon and 3 p.m. as emergency repairs are done by the Westchester County Department of Public Works and Transportation following Wednesday's fatal accident that caused damage to the bridge.

The Ashford Avenue Bridge will undergo repairs after a car crashed through a guard rail Wednesday, July 30.

The Village of Ardsley relayed a notice to the community issued by Westchester County Executive Rob Astorino's office late Thursday afternoon saying there would be alternating single lane closures on the east-west bridge that connects Dobbs Ferry to Ardsley at Route 9A along Ashford Avenue.

Motorists should expect delays and are advised to use alternate routes during the work period.

A guard rail and some of the deck of the bridge were damaged when a 21-year-old driver in a 2010 Camaro exited the Saw Mill River Parkway on the Ashford Avenue Exit 17 ramp, crossed the bridge's two lanes and crashed through the rail hitting a tree and landing 40-feet below the road. The driver died at the scene and the bridge was closed to traffic for most of Wednesday morning.
