Ball Meets His New Mount Pleasant Constituents

THORNWOOD, N.Y. – New York State Sen. Greg Ball's district now includes Mount Pleasant and he introduced himself Tuesday evening to residents and school district members at Westlake High School. Ball said it is his goal to continue to help Westchester residents with their increasing tax problems.

“Since the people here pay the highest taxes in the galaxy it is my responsibility to fight to bring that funding back here for the residents,” Ball said.

In March, Gov. Andrew Cuomo approved a new redistricting map for the state Senate, which made Ball the new representative for all of Mount Pleasant. Ball's district also encompasses the town of New Castle with the new district map and he no longer serves Bedford while remaining the representative for Mount Kisco, Peekskill, Cortlandt, Yorktown, Somers, North Salem, Lewisboro and Pount Ridge in Westchester County.  After giving a brief introduction of himself to residents, Ball fielded questions from the audience, most of which related to two percent tax levy cap and how it affects the local schools.

Schools Superintendent Susan Guiney said she hopes Ball can help with the burden of schools being hit with state mandates while also having to remain under the tax cap.

“Each year now we have to make a budget that’s under the cap and with these state mandates we have to continue to peel away more and more from our schools,” Guiney said.  “And we’re down to the bare bone.”

Ball said that he’s confident that state mandate relief will be coming soon.

“Especially in a town such as Mount Pleasant where you have such high graduation rates and four-year college acceptance rates I think when the state tells you what you have to do it’s reprehensible,” Ball said.
