MOUNT VERNON, N.Y. - Officials in Mount Vernon have given the “all clear” sign at the public library after a reported bed bug scare.

Bed bugs were recently found in a section of the Mount Vernon Public Library, prompting officials to take immediate action to eradicate any potential threat of transmission to any patrons.

In a statement, officials said, “Due to a recent report that bedbugs were found in the Mount Vernon Public Library, we want to assure our patrons that no live bedbugs were found at any time. It is important that our patrons understand that it is safe to visit the library without fear of transporting bed bugs to their homes or businesses. Our facility has been deemed bed bug free by licensed professionals.”

Officials said that the bed bugs that were initially found were dead, and presumed to have been carried in on a patron’s personal belongings, and the area where the bed bugs were found were immediately quarantined and an exterminator was brought in to clean up the area.

“The exterminator returned within 24 hours and no live bugs were seen nor were there any additional dead bedbugs found leading to the conclusion that the original source of the bedbugs was a library visitor and there is no infestation of bedbugs at the Mount Vernon Public Library.”
