Tree trimming and removal of trees in Briarcliff’s right of way (ROW) continues. This is part of Con Ed’s program to “harden” the power lines by cutting and removing trees that could sever power lines causing wide spread power outages.
The Hydro Pneumatic Pump Station is in the process of being placed on its foundation for future testing.
Club Field Comfort Station work continues. Interior work and framing out of the first floor facilities of our Community Center continues. Youth Center Basketball Court site has been cleared and re-graded for resurfacing.
It is time to winterize your lawn sprinkler system. Homeowners/ plumbers should drain lawn sprinklers for the year. Compressed air should be used to “blow out” water that could be lying in the piping. This is because water lying in low areas or the “saddle” of the system, especially, could expand causing undetectable leaks.
Briarcliff’s outdoor, clay tennis court season is officially over and all clay tennis courts are closed until spring. All-weather courts, Chilmark courts 3 and 4 and Law court 4, will remain open and available for play through the fall season.
The Platform Tennis courts are open and ready for play. Permits are required and may be purchased at the Recreation office, by mail, or through the department’s online registration system.
The Briarcliff Rotary Club’s Harlem Magic Masters fundraiser will be Friday, Nov. 6, at 7 p.m. at Briarcliff High School. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $15 and available at Todd School's PTA Book Fair or William Raveis Legends Realty Group, 1197 Pleasantville Road. There will be an M/BOT Board Session Wednesday at 7 p.m., followed by a BOT meeting at 8 p.m. The question of the week is “Why can’t Con Ed just replace all the overhead lines with a new, buried power grid?”
The Department of Public Works leaf/debris pick-up is under way. Bagged leaves must be consolidated in brown paper bags only. Through Jan. 1 bagged leaves will be picked up during the bulk leaf pick-up in your area, not on your recycle Wednesday; from Jan. 1 to Feb. 1, bagged leaves will be picked up on your Recycle Wednesday; and then from Feb. 1 to April 1. bagged leaf pick-up will be suspended.: Bulk leaves will be picked up curbside through Jan. 1, depending on leaf drop and surface conditions.
Christmas Trees: Christmas trees will be picked up from Jan. 1 to Feb. 1, curbside, on your Recycle Wednesday.
Organic waste: All organic waste material meeting the criteria outlined above can be dropped off at the DPW yard at 10 Buckhout Road, all year, Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Residents must sign in at the DPW office. Either the resident or a note from the resident must accompany the material.
