The Congregation Sons of Israel will be holding its annual Christmas dinner at 12 p.m. at Ossining Presbyterian Church at 34 S. Highland Ave.
All are welcome to attend and patrons will be served a dinner of turkey, mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce, sweet potatoes, vegetables, breads and dessert.
Judy Boehr of the Congregation Sons of Israel is helping organize the event. Boehr said before the dinner congregation members cook and shop for things people need and a crew of volunteers serves the food and greets people.
"For people who don't have a place to go, it's a very wonderful thing," Boehr said.
Boehr said about 80 families participate, and many veterans and senior citizens attend.
"It means a lot," Boehr said. "It's very lovely. People come with friends, I think they really count on it."
Many people volunteer simply because they have nothing to do on Christmas. The event was originally started by rotary until the synagogue took over.
"We go to the movies, we go skiing," Boehr said. "What else is there to do? This is a nice way for people to link up with members of the community. It's really nice."
Boehr said people often hug her when they come in and when they leave.
"They are very grateful," Boehr said. "It feels great to make people happy. This gives them a place to go on the holiday."
Food is also delivered to people unable to attend and Boehr said they feed people until they stop coming.
