BRIARCLIFF, N.Y. -- Briarcliff resident Londa Wilson is living every writer's dream.
Wilson's book, "The In House Bully," was recently published as an e-book at Amazon.com. Wilson has been writing since 1977, enduring the cycle of writing, submitting, receiving rejections and giving up on writing.
"The In House Bully" is a short novel for upper elementary-school aged children about having a bully that lives in your own house. Three new friends with the help of a mysterious hermit woman find creative ways to outsmart the bully, learning there are more important things than getting even.
Wilson based the story on personal experiences, noting everyone goes through bullying.
"It's a universal topic," Wilson said. "It's a terrible thing. Bullying has caused so many young people so much distress and has caused all kinds of acts of violence. It's a topical issue."
Despite some of the dark sides of bullying, Wilson said her book is lighthearted, involving name calling or someone hiding your things.
The story began when Wilson wondered what it would be like to be a hermit and live in the woods.
"There was no outline or purpose," Wilson said. "It grew out of an organic idea. I then imagined the characters all meeting each other and decided the purpose would be bullying."
Wilson said some of her favorite authors include J.K. Rowling and J.R.R. Tolkien. She just read "The Wind in the Willows," finding it beautiful. But seeing her own book published was quite the thrill.
"When I saw the cover for the first time on Amazon, I screamed and screamed for a quite a while," Wilson said. "I could hardly contain myself. I am so happy, I tried so hard and for so long. I finally got this thing done."
