PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – A Pleasantville couple said they felt lucky Sunday afternoon after their cream-colored 2007 Jaguar went up in flames in their driveway.

Elliot and Karen Cohen of 3 Trapping Way in Pleasantville said they arrived home and noticed smoke coming from their car parked in the garage at about 12:35 p.m. They moved the car into their driveway and called a tow truck, but said it wasn’t long before smoke and flames started pouring from the vehicle.

“The flames were shooting high,” Elliot Cohen said.

Pleasantville Fire Chief Bruce LaMonica said the car fire probably was related to something mechanical but that the exact cause was unknown.  He said the fact that the owners removed the car from the garage probably saved the house from a structure fire.

Pleasantville Fire Department arrived to extinguish the blaze shortly after 2 p.m., with aid from Thornwood.  Pleasantville EMS was also at the scene and the Chappaqua Fire Department was on standby.

Elliot Cohen, who was laughing and smiling with his wife after the car fire was put out, said they were lucky there was no wind and that the fire didn’t spread.
