DJ Henry Remembered Two Years Later

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – Two years after the tragic death of Pace University student DJ Henry, his family called for a day of remembrance and service.

“Find a way to serve others. It could be as small as buying coffee, helping them with groceries, whatever you want. I just ask that you do it remembering our son and if someone asks why you're serving them, let them know all about Danroy T. Henry Jr.,” Henry's mother, Angela, wrote in a Facebook post.

On Oct. 17, 2010, two years to the date, Henry was fatally shot through his car windshield by Pleasantville Police Officer Aaron Hess after Henry struck Hess with his vehicle in the parking lot of a Thornwood shopping center. A toxicology report released shortly after the incident showed that Henry was intoxicated.

A lot of progress has been made over the past year in discovering what actually happened on the night of Henry's death. In March, the Henry family's lawyer, Michael Sussman, released an abundance of evidence from the incident to the public. The video, audio and written documents showed a chaotic crime scene following the shooting.

A few weeks after Sussman released the evidence, Pace University dedicated a clock tower on its Pleasantville campus in Henry’s memory.

As the Henrys' civil battle with Hess, Pleasantville and the Pleasantville Police Department continues, Sussman has released transcripts of sworn depositions by Hess and other officers at the scene that night. So far, the depositions give conflicting reports about what happened just before Hess fired his gun at Henry.

Henry’s family most recently filed a lawsuit against the town of Mount Pleasant as well as Pleasantville Police Officer Kevin Gilmartin and Mount Pleasant Police Officer Ronald Gagnon. The lawsuit alleges a lack of medical treatment for Henry directly after the shooting.
