MOUNT PLEASANT, N.Y. A guest by the name of Irene visited the Westchester County area last weekend and may have ruined many plans for Mount Pleasant residents. Therefore, this Labor Day weekend may be a great chance to close out the summer with some fun activities.
The National Weather Service is calling for partly sunny skies on Saturday and Sunday with a high temperature in the low 80s. On Labor Day, showers and thunderstorms may put a damper on outdoor activities.
Having a barbecue this weekend? What better way to stock up on fresh vegetables and other goods than at the Pleasantville Farmer's Market or the Stone Barns Center? The Pleasantville Farmer's Market will be open on Saturday from 8:30 a.m. until 1 p.m. in the Memorial Plaza parking lot. The Stone Barns Center holds its weekend Farm Market on Saturday and Sunday from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. in the Dooryard Garden.
Although the Pleasantville Village Pool is closed until further notice because of electrical issues, the Mount Pleasant Town Pool is open for all town residents. A loss of power forced the pool to close earlier this week. It is now open and ready for its final weekend just before Labor Day. The pool will be open from 10 a.m. until 7 p.m. Put on some sunscreen and enjoy a day at the pool one last weekend.
With both the Pleasantville and Mount Pleasant Central school districts set to have their first day of school next Tuesday, this weekend can be a great time for parents and their students to do some last minute school supply shopping. Shop locally and stop at the CVS pharmacy in Thornwood.
If rain once again sabotages outdoor weekend plans, take the kids to the Jacob Burns Film Center this weekend to see a classic, "Jurassic Park." The film center is showing the Spielberg flick as part of its Movies for Kid promotion. All children's tickets are $1.
