Enjoy the Weekend Around Mount Pleasant

MOUNT PLEASANT, N.Y. – With fall in full swing, this weekend is a great time to get out with the family and enjoy Mount Pleasant. There are some great events and activities going on, some of which support local groups and schools.

The Stone Barns Center is always a great place to visit with your family during this time of year. There are many activities and tours going on at the center this weekend, including hands-on egg collecting, gardening for farm explorers classes, gardening farmers in training classes, and livestock tours. For more information, visit the Stone Barns Center’s website.

If you’re interested in doing some fall gardening, or picking up a pumpkin to carve, head to one of the local nurseries in Hawthorne, such as the Rosedale Nursery or the Green Valley Nursey, located on the Saw Mill River Road.

On Saturday at noon, the Jacob Burns Film Center in Pleasantville will show the Steven Spielberg classic E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial as part of its Movies for Kids (and their families) program. Tickets for children are only $1. The film center will also be showing the thriller Take Shelter starring Michael Shannon ( Revolutionary Road, Boardwalk Empire ). Take Shelter won the Critic’s Week Grand Prize at the Cannes Film Festival this year and will be shown at the center at various times throughout the weekend.  Check the center’s website for more details.

If you are looking to relax this weekend with a good read, the Mount Pleasant Public Library in Pleasantville is having an ongoing book sale. On Friday, the library will be selling books of all themes from 9 a.m. until 8 p.m. and on Saturday from 9 a.m. until 4:30 p.m.
