PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. Pleasantville residents and community members from around Westchester can view a unique blend of films at the Jacob Burns Film Center. Just down the road, residents are able to take home some of those films with the Mount Pleasant Public Librarys Curated DVD Collection from the Burns Center.
Its really a wonderful collection, said Mount Pleasant Public Library Director John Fearon. Its great also because theres so many different ways to find movies now-a-days that it could be a little overwhelming and here they can just come and easily select a movie.
The Curated Film Selection at the library was updated this week and now features 450 movies that were selected and recommended to the library by the centers board of directors. The DVDs that are selected were previously shown at the Burns Center and range from major Academy Award winning films to small independent flicks. All library card holders are able to rent the movies with a maximum of three movies at a time for a period of seven days. Fearon said that since the collection was started in 2009, the library has seen around 10,000 borrows from the collection.
Fearon said the Centers expertise on films and the librarys ability to provide them to the public on a regular basis is a great partnership for the community.
They have so many people there who are involved in the film industry and know so much about it and for us to collaborate with them locally is great for our visitors, Fearon said.
Fearon added that it was one library card holder described the collection best.
The greatest thing I heard about the films was that someone told me they could just close their eyes and reach out and grab something on the shelf, Fearon said. And that no matter what it was, it would be something they would enjoy.
