HAWTHORNE, N.Y. Commuters in Hawthorne will soon have a chance to grab a bite to eat before hopping on their train as the Station Café & Grille at the Hawthorne Train Station is set for its grand opening on Monday, March 12.
Planning and building on the project dates back to late 2010 and Town Supervisor Joan Maybury said it will be great to finally open the business for local residents.
We have been waiting a long time coming for this project to open and were excited because we think it will make a positive impact on the community, Maybury said.
The café will be open seven days a week, with hours of 5 a.m. 7 p.m. Monday through Friday, 6 a.m. 5 p.m. on Saturdays and 6 a.m. 3 p.m. on Sundays. In-house dining will be available with free WiFi access. The menu features breakfast foods such as bagels, muffins, omelets, pancakes and French toast as well as wraps, sandwiches, paninis and other lunch items. The café will also have free delivery with a $15 minimum seven days a week from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m.
Nadia Barrett, a Danbury resident who commutes to work in Hawthorne during the week, said she believes the café will be a plus for those running late in the morning.
Its a good idea if you dont have time in the morning to make yourself something you can grab food before your train, Barrett said.
Agnes Stangarone of Hawthrone said the success of the business will depend on the service.
I think if its more of a fast-food type of thing it will be good as long as its something quick that you can get on the go, Stangarone said.
Maybury said she ultimately hopes the new café will be successful and help attract other business to the Hawthorne area.
It certainly created a beautiful space where an eyesore once existed, Maybury said. And we think that it can only bring more wonderful things in the immediate area with this as a starting point.
