Rockland Woman Killed In Honduras Bus Crash

SPARKILL, N.Y. -- A 45-year-old Rockland woman was among three people killed in a bus crash during a volunteer mission in Honduras on Wednesday, according ti multiple reports.

Abigail Flanagan of Sparkill was a nurse practitioner at the Columbia University Medical Center as well as a student.

Two other college students were also killed in the crash: 20-year-old Olivia Varley Erhardt and 21-year-old Daniella Moffson. Erhardt, also a Columbia student, was from Cincinnati, Ohio. Moffson was a student at Barnard College.

Flanagan and Erhardt were a part of a mission by Columbia's chapter of Global Brigades.

"This terrible and tragic loss is all the greater because these individuals were dedicating their passion and very special talents to serving those in need," Columbia president Lee Bolinger said in a statement. "No endeavor more proudly exemplifies the traditions and values of our University."

A total of 12 Americans were injured, with most reportedly in stable condition.

"We were deeply saddened to report the death of three members of our community, Columbia College sophomore Olivia Erhardt, Barnard College junior Daniella Moffson, and Abigail Flanagan, a General Studies student and nurse practitioner at the Columbia University Medical Center," Columbia University said in a statement."These students were in a bus accident while on a humanitarian mission in Honduras. Several other students were injured in the accident, and we are working to provide support and help them return home. 

"Columbia medical personnel and College staff are traveling to Honduras overnight to provide on-site assistance."
