Maria Fareri Children's Hospital Presents Its 'Go For The Distance Walk'

VALHALLA, N.Y. -- Thousands of local families are expected to turn out for "Go For The Distance Walk & Family Fun Day" at Maria Fareri Children's Hospital at Westchester Medical Center on Sunday, May 3. 

This year, the crowd will be led by grand marshal 13-year-old Gabriel Sanchez.

A short program with grand marshal introduction begins at 9:20 a.m. walk steps off at 9:30 a.m. Walk registration begins at 8 a.m. 

This year, the crowd will be led by grand marshal 13-year-old Gabriel Sanchez. Gabriel was in and out of hospitals since birth and was on his way to a liver transplant until he was properly diagnosed at Maria Fareri Children’s Hospital  with chronic granulomatous disease, a rare genetic disorder that was making it difficult for Gabriel to fight even the simplest of infections.

Today, Gabriel is healthy and happy and as the 2015 Go the Distance grand marshal, ready to represent the thousands of children cared for by Maria Fareri Children’s Hospital each year.

Before and after the walk a disc jockey will entertain participants as they enjoy jumping castles, fitness activities, character appearances and more. These family activities are available to all until noon. Radio personalities “Mike & Kacey” of 100.7 WHUD-FM serve as Got the Distance event hosts.
