Mount Pleasant Police Chief Charged With Possession Of Child Porn

MOUNT PLEASANT, N.Y. -- Mount Pleasant police chief Brian Fanelli was arrested on Thursday and charged with possession of child pornography, according to ABC 7.

Fanelli was arrested at his Mahopac home and is due in federal court in White Plains on Thursday.

Town Supervisor Joan Maybury said Fanelli has been suspended with pay in accordance with his contract. The 55-year-old Valhalla native was hired in November 1981. He rose to the rank of lieutenant before being appointed chief in November 2013.

According to a report by LoHud.com, Maybury was informed by U.S. Homeland Security agents of Fanelli’s arrest at about 12:15 p.m.. He was charged with trafficking in child pornography, she said.

As part of his job before becoming chief, Fanelli monitored the town's sex offenders.

Fanelli earned $118,181 yearly as a lieutenant before moving up to the chief’s position with a salary of $131,571.
