VALHALLA, N.Y. – The Town of Mount Pleasant will hold its sixth annual cleanup day Saturday in hopes of restoring many areas of the town just in time for the warmer weather.

“It’s a wonderful community effort that the town’s had for a few years now and every year the effort seems to get bigger and bigger,” Town Supervisor Joan Maybury said.

The day will begin at 9 a.m. at Carroll Park in Thornwood. From there, the groups will move to various locations throughout the town including Kensico Road, Columbus Avenue, Broadway Field, the Saw Mill River Parkway entrance and others. The event is sponsored by the Thornwood Lions Club and the Mount Pleasant Beautification Foundation, which originally started the event.  Maybury said that the event has grown to incorporate many organizations throughout the town to help out in the effort.

“It’s great because we get young people from our Boy Scouts and AYSO soccer and other organizations,” Maybury said. “And it’s good to spread the awareness that it’s important to keep our local environment in good condition for the future.”

Maybury said that the event is coordinated with the town highway and sanitation department to provide necessary supplies to any volunteers who wish to participate. She added that the effort is not limited to the selected designated locations.

“If people out there have a spot that’s near and dear to their heart that isn’t listed as a designated spot, they can notify our highway department and go there on Saturday to clean up and the department will come and pick up the trash and debris,” Maybury said.

All are welcome to the event and registration is not required.  Refreshments will be served and proper outside work attire is recommended.
