Mount Pleasant Settles Wrongful Death Suit With Family Of Football Player

WESTCHESTER COUNTY, N.Y. -- The parents of Danroy "D.J." Henry Jr., a football player at Pace University who was killed during an encounter with police officers in 2010, have settled their civil suit against the Town of Mount Pleasant.

Henry was shot and killed when a police officer knocked on the driver's side window of Henry's car as he was parked in a fire lane outside of Finnegan's Bar & Grill in Thornwood.

Officers from both Pleasantville and Mount Pleasant shot at the car, police said.

Although the financial terms of the settlement were not made public, they did include an apology from the town, a financial settlement for the family, and the agreement to make a one-time contribution to the DJ Henry Dream Fund, that provides college scholarships, reported lohud.com.

The settlement comes 14 months after his parents, Angella and Danroy Henry Sr., settled a lawsuit with the village of Pleasantville for $6 million.

Police had said that Henry sped off when officers approached, but Henry's family countered he drove at an appropriate speed and did so in response to the officer's instructions to move.
