With 85 percent of the votes reported in Westchester, Murphy leads Castelli 70 percent to 30 percent, with Castelli conceding to Murphy.

With 100 percent of the votes reported in Putnam, Murphy leads Castelli 66 percent to 32 percent.

Murphy will challenge Democratic nominee Justin Wagner. Incumbent Greg Ball declined to run for re-election.

Castelli said he was disappointed by the results.

"We had a lot of wonderful people working very hard," Castelli said. "I am more disappointed for them. We fought a helluva fight."

Castelli said he was not unhappy that they gave Republican voters a choice and said he would endorse Murphy.

"He has my full support," Castelli said. "We started this as friends and we still are. We treated each other graciously, that's the way it's supposed to work."

Castelli said he would take Murphy up on his offer to have a beer at Murphy's, the bar Murphy owns with his family.

"But he's buying," Castelli said.

The 40th district covers Pleasantville, Armonk, Bedford, Yorktown, Briarcliff, Chappaqua, Cortlandt, Lewisboro, Mount Pleasant, Mount Kisco, North Salem, Peekskill, Pound Ridge, Somers and parts of Putnam and Dutchess County.
