Pleasantville Church Celebrates Joyous Easter

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. — The sun filled the sky and plastic, colored eggs filled the grass as parishioners gathered Sunday at Pleasantville Presbyterian Church for an Easter celebration.

“It’s really one of the most joyful days of the year,” said church member and spokesperson Barbara Loizeaux.

The morning started off with a special Easter service at the church. Following the sermon, congregants and their children spilled out into the grassy area surrounding the church to scavenge for Easter eggs filled with candy and small toys.

The beautiful weather Sunday added to the celebration, as opposed to past years when there was still snow on the ground, Loizeaux said.

“It’s always better when it’s a sunny day because it reminds people that spring is right around the corner and it means new beginnings,” she said.

For Pleasantville resident Chad Kraus and his family, Sunday at the church was a particularly special day of the holiday weekend, as he is Jewish and his wife is Christian.

“It’s been a wonderful time for us this year because we’ve had the opportunity to celebrate both Good Friday and Easter and also Passover all on the same weekend,” Kraus said. “And the weather this weekend is able to make the time even more joyous.”

Loizeaux said that situations like the Kraus family’s are becoming more common. She added that the Easter holiday also brings out members of the community who are not necessarily regular churchgoers.

“It’s nice to see all the new families come out or even just the people who only come out to church to celebrate the holiday,” she said. “It was great just looking around and being able to see all the new faces.”
