PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. The Pleasantville Emanuel Evangelical Lutheran Churchs Palm Sunday services will bring together members of the church to celebrate an integral annual holiday. On top of celebrating, the church hopes an afternoon concert can improve an integral part of the church for future years to come.
Were hoping to raise money to purchase a new organ, church administrator Kathy Cairns said. Right now its as old as the building is so over the years its been able to receive some repairs but at this point its getting kind of sad.
The Emanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church has been at its location on Manville Road since the mid-1950s. The church will hold its regular Sunday services at 9 a.m. and 11:15 a.m., with the concert beginning at 1 p.m. The special concert will feature the churchs choir along with La Spiritata Recorder Quartet. This is the first year that the church will be hosting this concert. Its free to the public and donations will be accepted.
Cairns said Sundays services will kick off the religious week leading up to Good Friday and Easter.
This time of year, Palm Sunday always begins to begin a more serious holy week, Cairns said.
The church will hold services every night this week at 7:30 p.m. leading up to a special service on Good Friday. Each service will be led by the churchs Rev. Paul Egensteiner.
Cairns said this time of year is her favorite and it is heightened by the anticipation of Easter.
I really like this time of year, this week, because all of the services are very quiet and somber, Cairns said. And it all sort of leads up into the excitement and jovial spirits of waking up on Easter morning.
