Pleasantville Honors Lopez With Key to the Village

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – The village of Pleasantville welcomed a new member to the board of trustees, but also honored a former member by giving Stephen Lopez a key to the village Monday evening for his time served on the board.

“With his experience in zoning and planning, Stephen brought substantial skills to the board that I hope we will be able to keep intact,” Pleasantville Mayor Peter Scherer said of Lopez.

Lopez was replaced in March after being defeated in the village election by challenger candidate Colleen Griffin Wagner. Scherer said he hopes the board can compensate for the skills Lopez brought to the village. Lopez served one three-year term on the board of trustees, and was previously on the village’s planning board for 13 years. His professional background includes working as a city planner and a landscape architect.

Lopez was humbled by the village’s gesture and said he believes the current board will be well suited to serve the residents of Pleasantville in his absence going forward.

“I think we accomplished a lot during my three years on the board and I think there’s certainly enough left to accomplish,” Lopez said. “And they will probably do well on their own, they can figure it out.”

Griffin Wagner was sworn in Monday as well as Scherer and fellow trustee Jonathan Cunningham, who were re-elected in March and will be serving their second and fourth terms respectively. Griffin Wagner said she is eager to get started on the board.

“I really look forward to working on the board and I’m really excited,” Griffin Wagner said. “And I hope that I can do Steve Lopez justice for the job that he’s done for the village.”

Griffin Wagner is a stay-at-home mom who has lived in Pleasantville for 12 years. In previous interviews, she has said she hopes to improve the communication between the trustees and the village residents.
