ARDSLEY, N.Y. – Ardsley police have opened up an investigation into the cancer fundraising efforts of Shivonie Deokaran, a month after the resident left town with her two sons, according to lohud.com.
Deokaran had galvanized the area after saying her terminal cancer diagnosis last August left her family in danger of losing their home. A story from Daily Voice on the situation, published last year, is available here.
The Ardsley community responded with fundraisers, including just over $16,000 raised from a spaghetti dinner in November .
The seriousness of Deokaran's illness began to be questioned when she told friends that her doctor from Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center had died in an earthquake in Nepal last April, but no American doctors perished in the quake, lohud.com reported.Read the lohud.com article here.
