Police Search For Missing Hudson Valley Kayaker

State police have identified a male kayaker who went missing in the Hudson Valley on Tuesday afternoon in the Hudson Valley.

At approximately 3:15 p.m.,  Ulster County 911 received a call for an overturned kayak in the Wallkill River in Rifton, in the town of Esopus near the area of Route 213.

The initial response consisted of State Police Highland, Ulster County Sheriff's Office with their dive team, Ulster County Hose #5, Rifton Fire Department, Esopus Ambulance, and Ulster County Department of Emergency Management .

State Police Underwater Recovery Team (URT) from Troop F and Troop K responded with an airboat and SONAR equipment.

The search lasted until 8 p.m., shortly after the kayak and other personal belongings were located and secured.

The search resumed Wednesday morning and efforts are still underway to locate the missing kayaker.

The name of the missing kayaker is currently not being released.
