With winter weather seemingly finished, Northern Westchester residents will have their chance to speak out about the recent response to a rash of Nor’easters that rocked the region, leaving hundreds in the dark for days.

The New York State Department of Public Service is currently investigating the preparedness and response of each of New York’s seven major electric companies, including Con Edison, recently announcing a series of public meetings to allow members of the community the opportunity to have their say.

According to officials, as part of the investigation, “the Department will conduct public statement hearings so that affected utility customers may present their comments, experiences and concerns about outages and response from the utility companies.”

There will be a meeting regarding the matter beginning at 6 p.m. on Monday, April 23 at the Somers Middle School Auditorium on Route 202, and a second hearing the following day at 2 p.m. at Pound Ridge Town Hall on Westchester Avenue.

“The hearings are open to members of the public who wish to participate and comment,” Bedford Town Clerk’s Office. “The public comments will be considered by the Commission in their investigation of the storm preparation and response by the state's major electric utilities.”

"Between March 2 and March 14, 2018, two severe storms caused widespread power outages for more than 590,000 New Yorkers, some for as long as 10 days," The NYSDPS announced. "The Department is investigating the preparedness and response of Central Hudson Gas & Electric Corporation, Consolidated Edison Company of New York, Inc., Niagara Mohawk Power Corporation d/b/a National Grid, New York State Electric & Gas Corporation, Orange and Rockland Utilities, Inc., PSEG Long Island, LLC, and Rochester Gas & Electric Corporation."
