An estimated 6,298 customers were without power in Mount Pleasant at 3 p.m. Tuesday, according to Con Edison reports. Con Edison vehicles were in the area but there was no timetable for when power would be restored.
MOUNT PLEASANT, N.Y. – Hurricane Sandy wiped out power to nearly 60 percent of Mount Pleasant customers as of Tuesday morning, according to Con Edison reports.
An estimated 5,261 out of 8,783 customers in the Town of Mount Pleasant were without power at 5:30 a.m. Tuesday, according to Con Edison reports. Authorities said the height of the storm was expected to hit the area late Monday, but that intermittent power outages could be expected all day Monday and Tuesday. Roughly 163,824 out of 348,198 customers throughout Westchester County were without power Tuesday morning.
Con Edison officials could not determine Tuesday morning when a majority of the outages would be repaired.
More than 650,000 customers in New York City and Westchester County lost power due to Hurricane Sandy, Con Edison representatives said early Tuesday.
“This is the largest storm-related outage in our history,” said Con Edison Senior Vice President for Electric Operations John Miksad in a press release. The company noted that the previous record was “more than 200,000 customers affected by Hurricane Irene in 2011,” according to the release.
Miksad noted that crews would need to assess damage prior making to repairs, adding that “low-lying areas of New York City and Westchester County remained under water,” according to the release.
Officials noted that more than 180 roads closed throughout Westchester County.
