A pair of New York City men are facing federal charges stemming from the armed robbery of several Verizon Wireless stores, including locations in Newburgh, Scarsdale, Tarrytown and Thornwood, according to Joon H. Kim, the Acting United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York.

Diabel Samb, 32, and Mamadou Ndao, 24, were arrested on Oct. 24 after entering the Scarsdale Verizon Wireless store and demanding cell phones and other electronic devices at gunpoint, the U.S. attorney said.

Subsequent investigation by the New York Field Office of the FBI, the U.S. Attorney, the Westchester County District Attorney and others connected Ndao and Samb to the other area holdups.

Ndao and Samb reportedly robbed the Newburgh Verizon store in the Mid-Valley Mall on the morning of May 30. The two are believed to have robbed the Tarrytown store on March 3 and the Thronwood store on April26 according to the Times Herald-Record .

“As alleged, Ndao and Samb endangered the lives of customers and store employees in a series of armed robberies," Kim said in a statement. "Thanks to our law enforcement partners, the defendants are now in custody and will face justice in federal court.”

Ndao and Samb were each charged with one count of Hobbs Act robbery; one count of conspiracy to commit Hobbs Act robbery; and one count of using a firearm in relation to a crime of violence. The two men are facing a maximum sentence of life in prison on the firearm charges and a maximum of 20 years on the Hobbs Act robbery charges.
